I learned to sew and I found a passion that I never had before in creating things that others can enjoy.
2. Did you keep your new year’s resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I kept some, they were:
- First Up...D will be potty trained...all the way. While this was not accomplished we have come a long way..this is going to take some time.
- I will no longer use plastic shopping bags by using my EnviroSax. Every now and then we slip, but we're doing really good on this one. T keeps me on my toes with the bags.
- I will go back to school and stay on a solid curriculum. DONE!
- Stop cursing/swearing period. (No thanks to T) Not quite..um..no not at all actually..I think it's that dirty sailor in me :) At least I don't do it around D.
- Give up coffee entirely (Well what?) I might take that one back tomorrow..we'll see. I know Jamba Juice will help. I took this back one month later after I realized how much I loved coffee and what a better person I was with it.
- Have friends over once a month. I mean frenz. We had friends over 6 times last year including Thanksgiving Dinner which I'm pretty happy with. Having friends over isn't always budget friendly you know.
- Learn to sew. SOLID!!!
- 4 out of 7 ain't bad.
3. Did anyone close to you give birth? Nope. Lots of blogger acquaintances and friends of friends but there's a ton that are pregnant now..lots of 2009 babies.
4. Did anyone close to you die? My grandfather died, may he be in a better place.
5. What countries did you visit? None, the first year we haven't traveled but we've been busy with D's chemo. When the time comes we'll be ready.
6. What would you like to have in 2009 that you lacked in 2008? More patience in living with a three year old. D seems to think he's entitled to everything in sight and it really gets to me at times. I'd like to have the patience to teach him more and not say "no" so much.
7. What dates from 2008 will remain etched upon your memory, and why? 11/09/08 D's diagnosis anniversary because it's one step closer to living a long cancer free life. Also, the entire month of February because we finally got housing, orders and our stuff after so so long of living like nomads.
8. What was your biggest achievement of the year? My personal achievement for 2008 is teaching myself how to sew and succeeding. For D, it is getting him speech therapy and sticking with it. Sentences are so much sweeter than incoherent shouting.
9. What was your biggest failure? I didn't do so hot on my final exams, but it was around the holiday and really I'm just glad I passed all my classes. Also, I don't think we approached potty training with the right attitude.
10. Did you suffer illness or injury? I had a few colds here and there and there was that one trip to the emergency room but other than that I am not sick (thank God) I only have to take care of someone that is sick (D) and he is getting much better.
11. What was the best thing you bought? My sewing machine and all the sweet designer fabric I love to use.
12. Whose behavior merited celebration? Diego's and Trinity's. D's perseverance with his treatment is amazing, he knows what's up and goes along with almost everything. The best we could ask for in his situation. T because he has become an amazing father and I am so proud to be his wife.
13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed? Unfortunately, someone who was very close to me admitted to me they thought I hadn't done anything with my life and that my son had cancer because of my actions. They also went on to say that the military is only for people who have nothing better to do with their lives. Enough said right? Needless to say this person is only still in my life because they are related to me...that's about it. I don't need people like that and I pray she becomes a better person.
14. Where did most of your money go? OMG..I think a good half of our income went to that blessed house in Virginia. If and when we sell it I am going to have the biggest party. Drinks on T.
15. What did you get really, really, really excited about? We were incredibly excited when we got housing in Hawaii, when D was released from the hospital, when he started his less intensive chemo, when he started speaking in sentences, when T came home from his exercises (Thailand & Korea), when D started pre-school, when I started school, and for Christmas because this was such an amazing year.
16. What song will always remind you of 2008? Make you feel my love by Adele
17. Compared to this time last year, are you:a) happier or sadder?b) thinner or fatter?c) richer or poorer? Definitely happier, thinner, and probably poorer (living in Hawaii is no joke).
18. What do you wish you’d done more of? I wish I'd done more goofing off with D and had more silly conversations with my little brother.
19. What do you wish you’d done less of? I wish I'd done less worrying, I can't control the future.
20. How did you spend Christmas? At home, with my loves and two crazy pooches..it was grand.
21. Did you fall in love in 2008? I fell in love with T in 2003, and then with D in 2005, and this year I fell in love with Mojo and Baxter. Also with sewing...yes.
22. What was your favorite TV program? The Office I love...The Office and Project Runway.
23. Do you hate anyone now that you didn’t hate this time last year? Hate is too strong a word, I hold grudges but you really have to work at that too so, NO. Unless you count terrorists.
24. What was the best book you read? Hands down the Twilight series..the best sit on your ass and read a long while book. Also, The Secret Life of Bees.
25. What was your greatest musical discovery? Adele
26. What did you want and get? My Ipod Touch
27. What did you want and not get? A serger , but it will come when it can. (That's what she said.)
28. What was your favorite film of this year? I'm a Netflixer because we rarely go to the movies, but honestly, the most touching and make me cry lovely movie was The Kite Runner and that was as of last Friday. After that it's Stepbrothers...because they are the physical embodiment of Mojo and Baxter.
29. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you? I turned 24 this year and we spent it at a Resort eating Creme Brulee and splashing at the beach.
30. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying? Having more money, seriously, if we just didn't have that damned house things would have been much more easy going.
31. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2008? Haha..Goodwillish. Comfortable and easy to wash...what a joke!
32. What kept you sane? Music, sewing, running, and T's jokes/drinks. :)
33. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most? Robert Pattinson..although I have not seen the movie if there were ever a better Edward..my word.
34. What political issue stirred you the most? Stem cell research, there's a right way and a wrong way and it may help kids like D in the future. Some folks are just too blind to see the differences.
35. Who did you miss? My little brother, my cousin, my sisters and our friends back home.
36. Who was the best new person you met? Wow..not fair there are too many to count..from our awesometastic neighbors, the super cool bloggers, the folks that have helped with D, and all the people that have wished us well that I haven't met in person but I know keep us in their thoughts..there's got to at least be a hundred and I'm thankful for each and every one.
37. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2008. Being thankful and good are two virtues no one takes for granted, especially your children.
38. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year.
"When the evening shatters and the stars appear
And there is no one there to dry your tears
I could hold you for a million years
To make you feel my love"
Make you feel my love by Adele
Because I feel that way about my husband and son, my family, my friends. Thank you for being there for me, I will always do the same for you.
